Strange creatures of all shapes and sizes hit the streets of Greenwich Village Saturday night for the 36th Annual Village Halloween Parade.

Thousands marched in the drizzle up 6th Avenue from Houston to 22nd Street.

Parade-goers were decked out in everything from Marie Antoinette to President Barack Obama.

The parade featured 53 bands and several floats and even a Michael Jackson "Thriller" tribute dance.

"I go all out because it is probably my finest day of the year. I'm over 40 and anybody can do this at any age. It's just amazing," said one participant.

An estimated 50,000 marchers and 1 million onlookers came out for the parade.

This year's event also came with a little history lesson, as the parade celebrated the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage along the river that's named after him. Performers will carry replica ships along an ocean made of blue silk banners to mark Hudson's trip.
