Some local dancers are helping New Yorkers get an early start on St. Patrick's Day.

The Irish Arts Center in Manhattan is holding its annual Open Day this Sunday, with a helping of Irish culture, lessons and performances, including step dancing.

Performers say it may look hard, but step dancing pairs nicely with shamrocks and green beer for next week's holiday.

"Well it's high energy, but it's very fun to do,” said dance instructor Niall O’Leary. “And you're lifting your legs high, you're jumping high in the air, and it’s just fun to watch and to watch people do the same steps in exact synchronization.”

Those looking to strap on their dancing shoes can attend the event on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. People are invited to participate, or just to observe.
