The future of mass transit is the focus of a new exhibit at the Center for Architecture.

Called "Our Cities, Ourselves," the exhibit looks at sustainable forms of transportation in urban areas across the city, including here in the city.

Architects were challenged to come up with unique ideas, including getting rid of the FDR Drive and creating a ferry system known as water buses.

"This is hoping to lead the way a bit in terms of thinking about alternative vehicles, alternative uses of the street, and alternative systems of coordinating the different means of transportation that are available,” said architect Michael Sorkin.

Sorkin says the creation of waterfront parks and pedestrian plazas, like the one in Herald Square, is a step in the right direction for the city to make the best use of its space.
