A city police officer was arrested and arraigned on Monday for allegedly groping and assaulting a woman in the Bronx.
Police say 33-year-old Melvin Thomas is accused of touching the woman inappropriately, then punching her in the face, head and stomach.
Sources say the woman is the cousin of his girlfriend.
Police say it happened on Southern Boulevard in Tremont early Sunday morning, while Thomas was off-duty.
During his arraignment Monday, Thomas pleaded not guilty to charges of forcible touching, assault, sexual abuse and harassment.
He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court in April.
Police say Thomas was suspended from his job at the 84th precinct in Brooklyn.
