Three of New York's Finest wounded while responding to a call for a hostage situation were given promotions Tuesday.
In a ceremony at Manhattan police headquarters, Detective Kenneth Ayala was promoted to Detective 2nd Grade, Detective Michael Keenan was promoted to Detective 1st Grade, and Officer Matthew Granahan was promoted to Detective.
Police say all three officers were shot in the leg during a standoff with Nakwon Foxworth last month at an apartment in Sheepshead Bay.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says the officers displayed tremendous courage and rose to the challenge of stopping someone who needed to be stopped.
"I think cause we're a small unit, we're very tight. Everybody in the organization is very tight. I was close with Kenny before this, so we're very close," Keenan said.
"The banter between us is constant and always flowing - always. A lot of kidding between the both of us. Amongst all of us," Ayala said.
Foxworth is charged with seven counts of attempted murder and other crimes.
