In 1832...The first motorized streetcar line is inaugurated as service begins between Prince Street and 14th Street.

In 1889...New York World reporter Nellie Bly sets sail to travel around the world in 80 days – hoping to duplicate the fictional record of Jules Verne's "Phileas Fogg." Bly returns in triumph 72 days later.

In 1905...Genaro Lombardi receives the first city license to operate a pizzeria. His original parlor at 53 Spring Street is an instant hit – and Lombardi's Pizza still operates today, one block from the original location.
