A large sinkhole in the East Village has pedestrians pleading for Consolidated Edison to patch it up. NY1's Susan Jhun filed this follow-up NY1 For You report.

Pedestrians in the East Village are wondering what is taking for a hole at Avenue C at 13th Street to be filled, especially as there is a school right around the corner.

"It's extremely dangerous," said one local concerned parent.

"If you don't know that the hole is there, it's dangerous for people with children," said another.

NY1 For You first reported on these concerns at the beginning of the month after neighbors called NY1 about the huge hole they say had been growing for quite some time.

At that point, NY1 contacted Consolidated Edison about the ditch.

After the first story aired, Con Ed put up barricades around the hole, but two weeks later the hole is still there.

A spokeswoman for Con Ed tells NY1 the hole is a sinkhole. She said the agency has made the location safe while it conducts a further analysis to determine a long-term fix which involves electric and gas mains. It's an ambitious project, and pedestrians hope it happens sooner than later.

NY1 will continue to follow this story.
