Nightmare Haunted House

With Halloween falling on a Friday, this will be a big weekend for those looking for a thrill. One of the all time great haunted houses is Nightmare on the Lower East Side. It's the city's longest running haunted house and it returns this year with a New York theme, celebrating everything from gargoyles to super rats. Tickets start at $30.

At the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, it's time for some excruciatingly scary cinema. Now through Halloween the museum is screening a series of horror films including "The Exorcist,"" The Bride of Frankenstein" and "Poltergiest."

CMJ Music Marathon

The 34th annual CMJ Music Marathon continues with performances in venues across Brooklyn and Manhattan. Headliners include the likes of Lily and the Parlour Tricks, Fictionist, and Slowdive. Festival passes start at $140.

The New York Pops Opening

Friday night at Carnegie hall, The New York Pops opens its 32nd season with "All You Need is Love: The Music of The Beatles." Tickets start at $34.

Lava Handstand-A-Thon

Lava, a Brooklyn-based dance company is turning traditional fundraising on its head with a handstand-a-thon for Lava’s community programs on Saturday from 3-6 p.m. It's located at 524 Bergen Street in Brooklyn.

Harlem Stage: “Makandal”

Harlem Stage previews its new opera “Makandal” at Guggenheim’s Works & Process October 26 at 7:30 p.m. at The Guggenheim Museum’s Peter B. Lewis Theater, located at 1071 5th Avenue (at 89th Street). Tickets are $35 for non-members, and $30 for members.

"Staten Island Zombie Apocalypse" takes place this Saturday, Oct. 25 at 12:30 p.m. The after party begins at 4 p.m. at Nurnberger Bierhalle. It starts at at Silver Lake Park Tennis Courts (Corner of Hart Blvd. & Revere St.). Tickets start at $10.

Halloween Harvest Festival

Halloween Harvest Festival in Long Island City takes place this Saturday, rain or shine. It takes places 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Socrates Sculpture Park, located at 3134 Vernon Blvd at Broadway. Admission is free.

Another great event this weekend is the Zombie Punk Cabaret. It's on Sunday from 5:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Staten Island Fountain Cemetery, located at 1632 Richmond Terrace. Tickets are $20. Students under 18 with an adult get ticket for half the price.
