Akim Funk Buddha at BAMcafé

Hip-hop fusion artist Akim Funk Buddha returns to BAMcafé for a cross-cultural evening of music and dance. Expect to see is performance infused with unexpected sounds, including Mongolian throat singing or Balinese monkey chanting. It's Friday and Saturday night. Admission is free.

Takashi Murakami: In the Land of the Dead, Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow

At Gagosian Gallery on West 24th Street, see a major exhibition of new paintings and sculptures by Takashi Murakami. The exhibit is called "In the Land of the Dead, Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow." It's up now through January 17.

Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs

At MoMA check out Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs. This colorful exhibition is the largest and most extensive presentation of the artist's cut-outs ever assembled. You do need to reserve timed tickets to see the exhibit.
