The Feast of San Gennaro is taking over Little Italy once again, as the 85th annual festival kicked off Thursday.
The celebration honors the Patron Saint of Naples.
The 11-day feast runs along Mulberry Street between Canal and Houston Streets and features food, music, and even a cannoli eating contest.
"Well, I did 14-and-a-half of Baby John's Cafe Palermo cannolis, so it was just great to be here. This is the Feast of San Gennaro, 11 days. Come down, eat some sausage and peppers, eat some cannolis, enjoy yourself. Eat slowly!” said “Crazy Legs Conti,” a competitive eater.
“The fact that it's survived all these years and continues to grow and to thrive means that this is a very vibrant community. Italian Americans want to come here, and everybody enjoys Italian food, so what could be better than that?" said Joseph Scelsa of the Italian American Museum.
The festival runs through September 25th.
