New Yorkers across the five boroughs celebrated the Christmas holiday on Sunday.
Archbishop Timothy Dolan led midnight mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, with hundreds joining to recall the triumphs and sacrifices of the past year.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Archbishop Emeritus Edward Cardinal Egan were among those in attendance.
The service included a choir performance featuring members of the Metropolitan Opera.
"Our prayers are with all of our families and friends, our prayers so that peace may come to our beloved city," Dolan told those assembled. "To our families, to our hearts and indeed to troubled areas throughout the world."
Late Saturday Dolan presided over mass and shared dinner with firefighters from Engine Company 8 and Ladder 2 in Turtle Bay, where he me met with relatives of Robert Wiedmann, one of two firefighters injured fighting a fire last Monday in Crown Heights.
