Demonstrators marched in Times Square Friday in support of the Russian punk band "Pussy Riot."

The band's three female members were sentenced to two years behind bars after being convicted of hooliganism under Russian law.

Some of their supporters strummed guitars while others wore face masks similar to those worn by the band.

The band staged a guerrilla performance in the capital's main cathedral in March, where they pleaded with the Virgin Mary to save Russia from President Vladimir Putin.

"It's a shame for Russia, it's a shame for me because I'm Russian," said one person. "I understand that this day will remembered maybe forever."

"It's corruption, it's terror, it's political oppression," said another. "So I'm here just to show my support."

Police said six people were arrested at the protest.

The band's conviction sparked protests around the world in support of the feminist rockers.

President Barack Obama said he's disappointed in the verdict.
