Family and friends gathered in White Plains, N.Y. on Monday night to mourn the death of Steven Ercolino, the man shot and killed by a former co-worker near the Empire State Building last week.
A wake will also be held for Ercolino on Tuesday and a funeral Mass for the 41-year-old is scheduled for Wednesday.
Police say Ercolino was shot and killed by Jeffrey Johnson, 58, on Friday morning.
Ercolino was formerly Johnson's boss at Hazan Imports, a women's apparel company.
Police say the two had an ongoing dispute that continued after Johnson was laid off last year.
"The father and mother are besides themselves," said a mourner at the wake. "There's nothing they can do, really, they break down every time a friend comes in."
"They're speaking about Steven, you know, the good times. What else can you say, it's heart-breaking," said another mourner.
"He has so many friends here that are overwhelmed by the tragic loss," said a third.
Johnson was gunned down by police moments after the shooting.
Nine bystanders were hit by police gunfire Friday, most of them injured by bullet fragments.
