Police say an officer shot a man in the East New York section of Brooklyn Friday night following a foot pursuit.

The shooting happened at around 7 p.m. near the Cypress Hills housing complex in East New York.

According to the department, two uniformed police officers were on patrol in a police cruiser when they saw two men banging on the door of a vestibule.

When one of the officers got out of the car to see what was going on, they say one of the men took off on foot.

The officer followed while his partner drove to try and cut off the suspect with the vehicle.

That's when the officers say the suspect pointed a semi-automatic Millennium Pro .40 caliber gun in the officer's direction.

The officer then fired, hitting the 19-year-old once. He is expected to survive.

Charges against the suspect are pending. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
