Police have made an arrest in connection with a series of fires set in Queens Sunday, including one that destroyed the car of a former City Council member.
Devon Page, 22, faces five counts of arson.
Former City Councilman Eric Gioia says his Mercury Mariner was torched in front of his Woodside home.
He says he saw a huge fireball where his car was parked when he looked outside.
Police do not believe Gioia was specifically targeted.
The fire was one of several set in the area of 39th Avenue and 49th and 50th Streets early Sunday morning.
"There were huge flames. It went up into the trees and the side of the house. We're lucky it's a brick house, so the brick house didn't catch fire. But it was pretty scary," Gioia said.
"My garbage tanks and my partitions over there, everything, the partitions are gone there. I don't know. I hear this thing happened in other places. So I hope they catch the guy," said Oswaldo Calle, a local business owner.
Gioia's car was destroyed in the fire and had to be towed.
