A man died in Brooklyn Thursday afternoon after being struck in the head by a remote control helicopter.
Officials say 19-year-old Roman Pirozek Jr. was flying the miniature craft around 3:30 p.m. at Calvert Vaux Park in Gravesend when it fell and struck him in the head.
He died from a severe head wound at the scene.
Pirozek Jr. was a member of a club that regularly flies its remote control helicopters in the park.
His neighbors said they were shocked by the freak accident.
"I mean, shocked. I couldn't believe it," said neighbor Margarita Aviles. "I was shaking. I couldn't believe when I heard the news. I still feel it. It's my neighbor. We look for each other. Very good people. Catholic people."
"It's bad. It's bad news, because it hurts," said neighbor Ralph Maisonett. "I'm a father, too. I should know. It hurts."
Family friends say Pirozek Jr. had just re-enrolled in school to become an operating engineer.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
