Some students are getting a leg up on science through the art of dance in an innovative after-school program.

Time Warner Cable and Pace University have teamed up to launch the pilot program for underserved middle-school students.

The goal is to explore STEM subjects - science, technology, engineering and mathematics - through dance.

Sixty students from P.S. 188 in Manhattan learned similarities between coding and choreography, and even got to code their own dance routines.

"I saw a connection between science because you're using force and motion for the door to move side to side," said one student.

"With science, like gravity and how high they jumped, and with math, like the balance and the degree," said eighth grader Michael Brito.

"At Time Warner Cable, our goal is to connect young people to cool opportunities in science and math that'll get them excited about these subjects," said Karen La Cava, community investment director with Time Warner Cable.
