A judge is urging the city to fire six jail guards for allegedly beating a mentally-ill Rikers Island inmate.

The Department of Correction officers are accused of hog-tying and beating Robert Hinton while transferring him between cells back in 2012.

He suffered a broken nose and fractured vertebrae, among other injuries.

In her ruling, the judge says the guards lied about what happened, saying Hinton put one of them in a chokehold to justify the use of force.

Union President Norman Seabrook called the incident unfortunate and says correction officers are inadequately supervised.

Correction Commissioner Joseph Ponte will make the final decision. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
