“Inside City Hall,” an hour-long look at New York politics, can be seen on NY1 News weekdays at 7 and 10 p.m.

Zakiyah Ansari, the Advocacy Director for the Alliance for Quality Education, explains why she’s part of coalition that aims to overhaul the city’s public school system.

Watch a clip of the interview above.

Tonight’s program includes; A debate over the state’s minimum wage; an interview with outgoing State Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs.

INSIDE THE PAPERS

New York Times

John Eligon reports: “As legislation to raise New York State’s minimum wage faces strong opposition in the Republican-controlled Senate, several liberal advocates and lawmakers are calling on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to work more assertively for its passage, urging him to do more to help the poor and address income inequality.”
New York Post

Mitchel Maddux writes: “They just don’t get it. While a jury was hearing evidence that former state Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada Jr. looted his taxpayer-funded chain of Bronx medical clinics out of half a million dollars, his Soundview Healthcare Network was seeking more millions from Uncle Sam, The Post has learned.”

In his column, Fred Dicker reports: “The state’s largest public-employee union may kill Gov. Cuomo’s much-touted plan for an office to prosecute or discipline workers abusing people with mental disabilities who are under state care — unless they get an absurd giveback, The Post has learned.”

New York Daily News

Reuven Blau writes: “Hard time in city jails is about to get even tougher — at least for inmates who like M & M’s. City Hall is planning to purge the commissary snack bars at all city jails of popular junk foods, like soda, potato chips, honey buns and M & Ms, the Daily News has learned.”

Glenn Blain reports: “Gov. Cuomo is looking to crack down on cyber-bullying. Cuomo has included the issue among his top priorities for the year, and has been in talks with lawmakers in a bid to reach an agreement on a bill before the Legislature’s session ends in June, the Daily News has learned.”

Ken Lovett writes: “Senate Minority Leader John Sampson should enjoy the rest of the year — because his tenure as the chamber’s top Democrat is likely to end at the start of 2013. Senate Democratic insiders say there is virtually no chance Sampson will return as leader should the Dems capture the majority in the fall elections. And there is little likelihood he will be retained as Dem boss if the effort falls short.”

Wall Street Journal

Ted Mann looks at the delays surrounding the Long Island Rail Road’s East Side Access project.

Until tomorrow.
