A bill is being introduced in the State Senate today that would freeze the rent for some residents in subsidized housing.
Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada is proposing a rent relief assistance program for nearly 300,000 households in the five boroughs.
The bill is meant to help low and moderate-income households. Renters making up to $45,000 a year would be eligible.
The program would be funded through landlords, not city or state funds, if it is approved by the full Legislature and signed by the governor.
