City Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez is being investigated for a possible ethics violation.

The Council's Standards and Ethics Committee is looking into whether the Manhattan lawmaker assaulted a staffer during an argument last Friday.

Rodriguez, who's Chairman of the Higher Education Committee, says he spent the day trying to figure out why funding for Latino education programs was cut without consulting him.

He insists all of his conversations were civil and at no time did things get heated.

"I come from a family that has a very strong ethic, ethical values. I made a commitment that that was how I would conduct my whole life," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez, who won his seat after a special election, says he is confident he will be cleared of any wrong doing.

He says he will keep fighting for the programs that will benefit his community.

In a statement, Chair of the Standards and Ethics Committee, Inez Dickens, said, "Everyone deserves due process. This is a serious matter and there is an inquiry. Until the inquiry is completed, there is no comment on any investigation."
