We're only a few days into the new decade, which means most of us are already struggling with keeping those new year's promises at the gym. NY1's Kafi Drexel filed the following report.

Hitting the gym isn't everyone's favorite thing to do, but this is 2010 and slacking is so 2009. For a few tips to help stick to our goals for the new year, NY1 recently checked in with trainer Jenn Burke of Crunch Fitness. First tip? Start by scheduling exercise into your daily plan. It may seem simple, but scheduling actually has a big impact.

"It is really important to put it into your daily activities. So whether you put it in your planner, your BlackBerry whatever if it is in there it is. If it is in there it is going to be something you are not going to skip and push to a more convenient time," Burke said.

One thing you can do to help with scheduling is to bring your gym bag to work with you. That way you can hit the gym right after you are done with work, because if you go home first you are likely to stay there, especially when it is cold outside.

Finding a workout partner can also be another big motivator.

"No matter what if you have friend or a trainer or someone that's going to help you stay accountable to actually going to your workouts it is going to help. It is also going to push you harder than you will push yourself," Burke said.

And finally, other than regular workouts, make sure to figure out ways to incorporate other physical activity into your daily plan.

"Just adding little bits of activity throughout your day. Things that you don't even think about instead of getting on the escalator, get on but walk up the escalator. Take the stairs whenever you can," Burke said. "If it is one stop a little closer than the stop on the subway, get off and walk a little bit instead of taking the subway all the way there. All that extra activity adds up to a lot of calories burned throughout the day."
