Munch's "The Scream" Sold For Record $119M At Sotheby's

The Edvard Munch painting "The Scream" sold at Sotheby's for a record $119.9 million Wednesday.
The 1895 pastel on board piece, which depicts a man holding his hand and screaming under a violent sky, is one of four versions of the painting and is the only one still in private hands.
The frame is hand-painted by Munch and is inscribed with a poem of his that describes anxiety, which inspired the painting.
The name of the buyer was not disclosed.
It was previously owned by Norwegian businessman Petter Olsen, whose father was a friend and patron of Munch.
Proceeds from the sale of "The Scream" are going towards a new museum, art center and hotel in Norway, according to the Associated Press.
Another version of "The Scream" is in Norway's National Museum and the two other versions are in the Munch Museum in Oslo.
The previous record auction sale for an artwork was $106.5 million, for Pablo Picasso's "Nude, Green Leaves and Bust," which was sold by Christie's in 2010.
