With the changing of seasons in full swing, experts say it's important to keep skin care in mind. NY1's Kafi Drexel filed the following report.

It's that time of year again where all the winter stuff needs to be tossed out or stashed away. But skin care experts say your house isn't the only thing that needs spring cleaning.

"There can be a seasonality to different skin conditions." says "Forget the Facelift" Author and Dermatologist Dr. Doris Day. "And one thing I notice is people tend to have flares of their skin conditions, whether it's psoriasis, eczema or rosacea when the seasons change. And that's when it's especially important to pay attention to your skin care routine and adjust as needed to minimize those flares and keep your skin under as good control as possible."

To calm flare-ups Day recommends products like SkinMedica's redness relief, especially for rosacea.

Warmer weather also means more oil production, so lighter cleansers and moisturizers are also recommended. And just like shedding that winter wardrobe, the pros at Bliss Spa suggest scrubbing away dull, winter skin for a brighter complexion. A product they use in the spa, but you can also use at home, is the Crystal-lift microdermabrasion machine.

"Remove all the dead skin cells," says esthetician Marlena Ramoy. "You have manual exfoliation, you have mechanical exfoliation, and you have chemical exfoliation. The difference being that microdermabrasion is more of a mechanical exfoliation."

But when in doubt, both experts encourage seeing a trained professional rather than doing it on your own. Not done carefully, microdermabrasion can overstrip the skin and leave it more prone to irritation or infection. The number-one tip – meant for all year round, but especially for warmer weather – is to use sunscreen.

"I think one of the most important things as the seasons change is to recognize that while you may not feel so hot in the sun, sun protection is especially important this time of year," says Dr. Day. "It's when I see the earliest sunburns and people are usually caught off guard, because when the weather is nice we really do want to run outside and we forget the sunscreen."

Now all we have to do is wait for the weather to catch up.
