An annual event that brings thousands of people to Central Park for a fun-filled workout is taking place this weekend. NY1's Kafi Drexel filed the following report.

It's that time of year again when the pages of SELF Magazine spring to life for their annual Workout in The Park set for Rumsey Playfield in Central Park.

NY1 got a taste of what's to come with workouts like "Rock Bottom" from event partner, Crunch Fitness.

Thousands Expected At Annual Central Park Workout

"We definitely have people that say they've started to come every year, they're bringing more and more of their friends. Each year we have a workout in the park T-shirt, and they'll wear their old work out in the park T-shirts, kind of like you're going to a band, going to see a band, or your favorite rock group, and yeah people get inspired to try new things, and especially due to all of the cool 'Crunch' workout classes. It gets you excited about working out again, because it makes it fun," said SELF Fitness Editor Marissa Stephenson.

The event is being guest-hosted this year by Biggest Loser trainer, Dolvett Qunice. For just $20 you get an entire day worth of workouts, along with a swag that seems to go for miles. Part of the proceeds go to charity partners Cancer and Careers and the Conservation Fund.

Organizers say they expect more than 5,000 people to once again fill Central Park for the event.

"It's amazing. It's really nerve wracking at first, but once you get out there and you see that everyone is so involved and with you and they're there to workout, and have a great time, you just kind of get carried away and go with it and have a great time. And it's just fun, it's just so much fun," said Crunch Fitness Instructor Brooke Eddey.

The big workout takes place Saturday, May 12 rain or shine.
