This summer, New Yorkers may find their next workout on a rooftop, by a pool or in a park only a few steps from their front door. NY1's Health reporter Kafi Drexel filed the following report.

Not just the tourists need a guide for scoping out the hottest scenes this summer. Some native New Yorkers could still use a bit of help when it comes to finding the best outdoor workout spots.

Melisse Gelula and Alexia Brue, the co-founders of WellandGoodNYC.com, put a list together for NY1 using their "Healthy Summer Guide To New York 2012," starting with morning salutations from Yoga Vida right under the shelter of the arch in Washington Square Park.

"Yoga Vida is one of the yoga studios in New York City that is participating in the outdoor summer series. They have two studios and meet here every Wednesday morning at 8:30," says Gelula.

Then one can "Zen" the pounds away with affirmations and a yoga cardio blend with IntenSati, led by instructor Lindsay Davis in Central Park on Saturday mornings.

"Lindsay has been offering IntenSati in Central Park for about two summers now, 10:30, everybody meets at the giant globe and walks in together," says Gelula.

There is also free, organized after-work running.

"The Meatpacking District Run Club is new this summer. It's a collaboration between Icebreaker, which is an an outdoor fitness apparel store, really chic and hip with the SportsCenter at Chelsea Piers, and their run coaches," says Gelula. "Every Tuesday night they meet. It's wonderful to be able to stash your bags at the store, go for your run knowing they are secure and then come back to the store and they serve beverages and snacks and there are discounts. So it is a great community event."

The guide hits every borough, to help New Yorkers in every part of the city.

"No matter what neighborhood you live in, you'll find probably a fitness class in your local park," says Brue. "So many of the classes take place in some of the most iconic settings in New York, whether it is the arch in Washington Square Park or the new Pier 25 in TriBeCa and looking at the Hudson River. So it is an amazing way to take in the city and get healthy at the same time."
