If you're looking for the perfect gift this holiday season, there are some great, new DVD box sets of classic movies and TV shows that are sure to fit almost anyone's taste.
Oldies But Goodies
All 22, 007 films from 1962 through 2008 are finally available in one box and they're re-mastered in stunning Blu-ray. It starts with Sean Connery's “Dr. No,” ends with Daniel Craig's “Quantum Of Solace” and includes every James Bond movie in between. In addition, “The Dark Knight” Trilogy featuring all three Christian Bale Batman movies along with some really cool bonus features is available on Blu-ray.
Film buffs will love the “Casablanca” 70th Anniversary Edition that includes the time honored classic film, a beautiful book, posters, coasters and deleted scenes. Also re-mastered in a glorious looking box set is the 1952 musical masterpiece “Singin' In The Rain” complete with a book, posters and a commemorative umbrella. Fans of Quentin Tarantino will be happy with a box set that features eight of his movies including “Pulp Fiction” and “Inglorious Basterds.”
Robert Mitchum has a 10 movie collection that includes his classic “Night Of The Hunter.”
The folks at Disney offer up their 1950 animated classic Cinderella along with its two sequels in a lovely jewelry box. Animated movie buffs can also get Pixar’s “Up” and “Finding Nemo” in Blu-ray 3D.
“Friends Complete” offers up every episode of the hilarious series for the first time on Blu-ray and in widescreen.
The great rumpled raincoat detective “Columbo” has a 34 disc box set anthology with all 69 regular episodes and 24 TV movies.
All eight seasons of “House” starring the incomparable Hugh Laurie are also nicely packaged together
Other complete series that are new on DVD include “All In The Family,” the groundbreaking, landmark television sit com from the 1970's that broke all kinds of barriers, the 1960's Corvette road adventure “Route 66,” the brilliant New York fire house drama “Rescue Me” starring Denis Leary and the scathingly funny HBO series “Entourage” which follows four friends and one unforgettable talent agent in Hollywood.
Before the Tom Cruise movies, “Mission Impossible” was a hit TV series and every season of this entertaining show comes packaged in an oversized, stick of dynamite box. And way before it became a popular film, David Jansen was the wrongly convicted man on the run in “The Fugitive.” Every episode of this show is now available in a terrific DVD box set.
The first two seasons of “Star Trek The Next Generation” are out for the first time on Blu-ray with a wonderful cast reunion bonus feature and every season of the original TV show “Charlie's Angels” can be found in one DVD box.
For those in need of a laugh, check out Mel Brooks in a 6 disc set that includes vintage appearances by Mel on TV talk shows, clips and reflections of his days on “Your Show Of Shows” and new interviews with Mel talking about the making of his movies and his career.
“Wild and Crazy” guy Steve Martin is featured in a box set called “The Television” stuff that that features his TV specials and appearances on Saturday Night Live.
For the kids and maybe some adults too, there's “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Complete Series” where all the discs are packaged in a miniature Turtle Van. The Mighty Morphing Power Rangers offer up every one of their episodes and the folks at Warner Brothers have come out with the second volume of great Looney Tunes cartoons on Blu-ray.
