Council Members Protest Ferguson Decision, Mayor Remains Neutral

Local political leaders are responding in anger to a decision by a Missouri grand jury not to indict a police officer in the death of Michael Brown. It comes as New Yorkers also ask whether the unrest in Ferguson could repeat here, among those protesting another racially-charged death at the hands of police, this time on Staten Island. 7:25 PM

The death of Akai Gurley last week was the second time since Mayor Bill de Blasio took office that police have killed an unarmed black man. Yet the mayor has largely managed to escape criticism, perhaps because of a response that differs from that of some previous mayors.
