Public Advocate Blasts How Stuy Town, Peter Cooper Village Handled Sandy Rent Credits

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio criticized the management of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village for only allowing rent credits to tenants who promised to never sue over Hurricane Sandy-related issues.
Residents of the Manhattan apartment complexes were initially given a credit for days they were without heat, power or elevators because of the storm.
CW Capital, which oversees the massive complex, then sent out a note stipulating anyone who takes the credit forfeits his or her right to sue.
In a letter to management, de Blasio demanded the waiver be dropped from rent bills immediately.
He called the move "an act of bad faith and a clear attempt to deny residents their legal rights."
