As NY1 News revisits its 20-year history, the station looks back at the April 2000 theft of a half-ton bronze statue that had stood in Brooklyn's Saratoga Park for nearly 80 years. NY1 reporter Jay Dow covered the investigation into the disappearance of the monument, which honored soldiers killed in World War I.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: Parks Department officials say pieces of the sculpture were eventually recovered from local scrap yards, but the criminal investigation was hampered due to a lack of witnesses. Plans are now in the works to restore the memorial and officials say funds have been secured to recreate the sculpture – with work expected to begin in the fall of 2012.
