Madison Square Park Playground Renamed In Honor Of September 11th Hero

The playground in Madison Square Park in Manhattan was renamed on Saturday in honor of a police officer who died on September 11th.
Family members of Officer Moira A. Smith joined city officials for the renaming ceremony at the park's playground.
Smith is believed to have saved hundreds of lives on September 11, 2001, when she guided people out of the World Trade Center to safety.
The playground is in the 13th Precinct, where Smith worked for five years.
Her husband and now 12-year-old daughter were among those who paid tribute.
"It's an incredible honor to have this playground dedicated to Moira. It warms our hearts to know that this place that brings such joy to children, this place full of life and laughter, will bear Moira's name," said James Smith, the widower of Moira Smith.
"People will not remember what we say here but we must never forget what Officer Smith and others did on that day," said Manhattan-Brooklyn Congressman Jerrold Nadler.
Smith, who lived to age 38, was the only female member of the NYPD to die in the September 11th terrorist attacks.
