After being shut out for more than five periods, the New York Rangers finally solved Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson.

Derek Stepan tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal midway through the second period and Brad Richards and Chris Kreider scored later in the frame as the Rangers defeated the Senators 3-2 in Ottawa to force a seventh and deciding game in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

Anderson had held the Blueshirts scoreless for more than 145 minutes by the time Stepan broke through at the 8:55 mark of the second period.

Down 3-1, Ottawa mounted a furious rallying and pulled to within one on a late third-period goal that was credited to Jason Spezza even though replays seemed to show Chris Neil illegally directed the puck into the net with his foot.

But the Rangers held off the Senators in the final seconds to stave off elimination and bring the series back to New York.

The winner-take-all Game 7 will be Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
