The Washington Capitals' Alex Ovechkin scored a power-play goal with 7 minutes remaining in regulation to break a 2-2 tie and pull Washington even with the New York Rangers in their second-round playoff match-up.
The Capitals' win on Monday night at Madison Square Garden left them tied with the Rangers at one game apiece in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series.
Brad Richards and Ryan Callahan scored for the Rangers to pull the Blueshirts even with the Capitals after Mike Knuble and Jason Chimera staked Washington to a 2-0 first period lead.
But Ovechkin scored just four seconds into a third-period power play to notch the game-winner.
Michael Del Zotto hit the post with 58 seconds left in regulation and Rangers goalie Henrik pulled for the extra attacker, but that was as close as the Rangers came to tying the game.
Game 3 is Wednesday in Washington.
