Former New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens was acquitted by jurors Monday of perjury charges, in connection to his denial before Congress in 2008 of ever taking performance-enhancing drugs.

Clemens was found not guilty on all six charges he faced.

Jurors heard testimony from 46 witnesses over 26 days.

"It's been a hard five years and... my wife has been a rock," Clemens said.

"I hope those in the public who made up their mind before there was a trial will now back up and entertain the possibility of what he has always said. Using steroids and HGH is cheating and it was totally contrary to his entire career, said Rusty Hardin, Clemens' attorney.

Clemens' former strength coach, Brian McNamee, was the only witness to claim firsthand knowledge of the pitcher's alleged use of steroids or human growth hormone.

The former pitcher would have faced a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine if convicted.

Meanwhile at Yankee Stadium, fans reacted to the former Bronx Bomber's acquittal.

"I think he had his day in court and he was found not guilty and that's the way it is, doesn't bother me at all," said a fan.

"I think there's a preponderance of evidence. I'm really surprised that he was acquitted, but I think you have to go with what the court decides," said another.

"I just think the whole thing is stupid and we wasted too much money on it. Steroids was garbage anyway, everybody was doing it and everybody knew about it," said a third.

Clemens played for the Yankees from 1999 through 2003 and again in 2007.
