The New York City Fire and Police Departments traded in their hoses and guns for bats and balls on Tuesday for a game of stickball on the streets of Downtown Brooklyn.

Curtis Sliwa, the event organizer and Guardian Angels founder, said he hoped the game between the city's Bravest and Finest would inspire more children to play the game.

"I like to keep stickball alive. It was the game of my youth, it's what I grew up playing in," said Sliwa. "I think it would serve a whole new generation so well, to get them off their backsides, scrape the barnacles off, and get out there and run around in a safe sport that so many have profited from in this great city of ours."

The FDNY took home bragging rights after winning 6-2.
