The widow of a New York City Police Department officer who killed himself after a deadly taser incident is suing the city.
Susan Piggot, the widow of Lieutenant Michael Piggot, claims her husband was driven to suicide after being unfairly treated by the police department.
The officer took his life eight days after ordering the use of a stun gun on an emotionally disturbed man during a standoff in Brooklyn last October.
The man fell to his death when he was stunned.
Piggot was stripped of his gun and badge and demoted to desk duty afterwards.
Susan Piggot says the NYPD wrongfully blamed her husband for the incident and made him believe he'd be prosecuted.
"The reason I'm doing it is so no other family or police officer has to go through this. Because it's something that no one should ever have to go through," Piggot said.
Piggot says her husband feared losing his position in the elite Emergency Services Unit.
The NYPD has not yet responded to the legal action.
