The Navy ship partially forged from seven-and-a-half tons of World Trade Center steel left the city today for its home base in Virginia.

The newly-commissioned USS New York left the port on Manhattan's West Side this morning after being open for public tours this week.

The ship's commissioning ceremony was held last weekend.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was the keynote speaker and Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor David Paterson were among those in attendance.

The ship was built in New Orleans by survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
