A new exhibit honoring outgoing District Attorney Robert Morgenthau and his family is opening at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.
"The Morgenthaus: A Legacy of Service" takes a look back at three generations of the family since their arrival in America in 1866. It explores their impact on world events, American politics, and Jewish history.
Henry Morgenthau Sr. was the ambassador to the Ottoman Empire at the outbreak of World War I.
His son, Henry Morgenthau Jr., was secretary of the treasury during the Great Depression and World War II.
Outgoing Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said viewing the exhibit was an emotional experience for him.
"This makes me look back and I'm very pleased the way this has been handled and the way it's been developed," said the district attorney.
"The Morgenthau family offers us a remarkable opportunity to explore very important themes about 20th century American history, Jewish history, world history because the members of the Morgenthau family -- Robert Morgenthau's grandfather and father --intersected with key events of the 20th century," said Dr. David Marwell, the director of the Museum of Jewish Heritage.
The exhibit opens to the public on Monday. For more information, visit mjhnyc.org/morgenthaus.
