New Yorkers looking for the safest toys are getting some help with their holiday shopping today.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is hosting a town hall at the Toys-R-Us in Times Square today, where representatives are answering questions about toy safety hazards and requirements.
More than 50 percent, or $3 billion, worth of toys are sold during the holiday season, and advocacy groups say parents need to be smart shoppers.
"What's a parent to do, I mean how do you select amongst all the toys out there? There are hundreds of thousands. We believe you got to start with safety, and that means proper toy selection,” advises Alan Korn, executive director of Safe Kids USA. “Make sure you're getting the right toy for the right child, age appropriate, staying away from small parts."
