A disbarred civil rights lawyer convicted in a terrorism case more than four years ago has been sentenced to prison.

The Second Court of Appeals made the ruling today against Lynne Stewart after upholding her 2005 conviction. The ruling orders her to surrender immediately and requires a judge to consider whether her prison sentence is too lenient.

Stewart, 70, was sentenced to 28 months in prison for helping her client, an imprisoned cleric, deliver messages to terrorists.

She has been free on bail pending the appeal.

The court has also suggested that her sentence is too lenient because Stewart might have perjured herself during the trial.
