Crowds gathered Monday in Times Square to voice their anger over young community members becoming victims and perpetrators of gun violence as part of a nationwide "Day Of Outrage."
The gatherings are part of a call from anti-gun activists to end the bloodshed on city streets.
Rally leaders hold both criminals and the community responsible for violence in city neighborhoods. They hope to instill a sense of worth and purpose in young people before it's too late.
"Young people have lost the meaning of life, they've lost the value of life, they don't value their life, you know they're not going to value anybody other's life," said film director Spike Lee.
"It's about our children that are being killed in these, our communities. It's about people not being angry. It's about everyday one of our loved ones has to go inside of this and don't nobody care," said one "Day Of Outrage" participant.
The Reverend Al Sharpton and his National Action Network sponsored the Manhattan event.
More than 20 cities held National Day of Outrage rallies.
