Mayor Michael Bloomberg appointed two new commissioners for the Departments of Environmental Protection and Probation in City Hall Monday.
Caswell Holloway, above left, is the new head of the DEP, which is responsible for the city's air and water quality. He previously served as chief of staff to Deputy Mayor Edward Skyler and as advisor to the mayor.
Holloway said today his major goals are to improve water infrastructure and water quality.
"Over the next four years we need to press forward aggressively with green infrastructure investments that would help reduce combined overflows," said Holloway. and we must continue to be vigilant about emergency response, threats to public health like asbestos and quality of life issues like excessive noise."
Bloomberg also named Vincent Schiraldi, above right, to head the Department of Probation.
Schiraldi, who most recently led the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services in Washington, D.C., said he aims to help young people who facing adult probation charges.
"If we can turn them around, they're going to save the city plenty of resources, save the city plenty of pain and agony by being productive citizens and being the kind of people we all want them to be," said Schiraldi.
Schiraldi starts the job in February, while Holloway starts in January.
