Residents in Lower Manhattan were given a chance Wednesday night to voice their objections toward the federal government's plan to hold the September 11th terror trials just blocks from their homes.
Dozens of angry residents spoke out against the plan at the Community Board 1 hearing.
Many said they don't want to live through the events of the terror attacks again.
With security around the Manhattan Federal Court House expected to be tight, residents say they will suffer the most.
"Two hundred and forty families will be imprisoned. We will not have access to our cars. We can't get in and out of the building, as we did on 9/11," said one Lower Manhattan resident.
"There's no reason to have this trial here in New York. It can be held anywhere. Let Obama hold it on his lawn. Let him expose his family and his children to this," said another Lower Manhattan resident. "Why should our families and our children and our seniors suffer from this?"
No date has been set for the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his four co-conspirators.
The Chair of Community Board 1 proposed moving the trial to Governors Island, an idea the audience supported.
