The White House is reportedly doubling funding for treatment programs for September 11th responders, but only after it was announced that it would not support a permanent funding measure.
According to published reports, $150 million will go toward the program for ailing first responders in the upcoming fiscal year, more money than ever before.
But the funding comes after Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the administration does not support mandatory funding for the $11 billion permanent treatment plan.
Local legislators and family members say the Obama administration still needs to find funding for the permanent program, so they do not have to ask for funding every year.
