The Manhattan district attorney's office is looking into how an election year donation by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to the Independence Party was spent.
The mayor donated $750,000 to apparently pay for poll watchers and other Election Day expenses. But the money was reportedly passed from the Independence Party to Republican operative John Haggerty and is not fully accounted for.
Investigators are looking into the organization through which the money was passed. That group, the Special Elections Operation, wasn't created until a month after the election.
According to a source, the party chairman Frank McKay, was issued a subpoena.
Haggerty was also reportedly subpoenaed.
McKay, Bloomberg, and the DA have declined to comment.
As of late Tuesday, Haggerty had not returned a call from NY1.
