With the Roosevelt Island Tram shut down for repairs, local commuters are noticing larger crowds on subways.
The tram went out of service earlier this month for a major overhaul and will not return until September.
Those needing to get on and off Roosevelt Island have to either take a bus or the F train.
The usual four-minute ride is turning into a much longer commute.
"It's very crowded. Extremely crowded, right packed to the door," said one local.
"They have put buses out, but the schedules of the buses are inconsistent with the tram schedule. So if you wait for the buses, you're still waiting an enormous amount of time," said another.
"A lot of people are inconvenienced, but in the long run, this will turn out better for them when they have a new tram that works more efficiently and better," said a third.
The $25 million project will replace the tram cabins and cables and will include a new system that allows each tram to run independent of each another.
