Daylight Saving Time is this Sunday, and the New York City Fire Department is reminding New Yorkers to check the batteries of their smoke detectors.

The change to Daylight Saving Time officially occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday, but New Yorkers can set clocks and watches one hour ahead before going to bed Saturday night.

In Midtown, Tourneau and some of the U.S.O. Liberty Bells turned forward the hands of more than 8,000 watches at the Tourneau store, the world's largest watch store on Saturday.

Clocks will fall back again when Eastern Standard Time will returns on November 7.

On Friday, FDNY officials spoke to at a school in Hamilton Heights, Manhattan about changing fire alarm batteries during Daylight Saving Time and planning what to do in case of a fire.

The children were encouraged to come up with a family escape plan if they did not have one already.

"I have some homework for you to do tonight.... I want you all to listen very carefully, then go home and remind your family members to change the batteries on your smoke alarms this weekend," said Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano. "It can save the life of your parent, your little brother, your sister or a friend."

The FDNY partnered with Duracell, which donated 75,000 batteries that were handed out at several city subway stations.
