A tug of war is brewing over who should get custody of a three-year-old boy abandoned at St. Patrick's Cathedral last week.
A New York judge recommended the case be moved to Florida, where Nathaniel Fons lives.
The toddler's paternal grandparents are hoping to get custody, and traveled here in hopes of bringing him home.
But Nathaniel's mother, who's in a Florida jail on counterfeiting charges, says she wants her mother to care for him.
Nathaniel will be turned over to the Department of Social Services in Flagler County.
Law enforcement officials with knowledge of the investigation tell the Associated Press the woman who allegedly left Nathaniel at St. Patrick's has met with prosecutors. Officials say Eleanor Black and William Scott are acquaintances of the boy's mother.
