Teardrop Park South, located off Murray Street in Battery Park City, opened Wednesday.
The half-acre park was created as an extension to Teardrop Park North, which opened in 2006.
The park's central draw is two blue-stone water features -- one calm and flowing and the other gushing and active.
"It's a very unique place. There's going to be an outdoor cafe here, there's a branch of the public library here, there's Poet's House," said President Jim Cavanaugh of the Battery Park City Authority. "It's just going to be a great place for people to come, relax, sit and look at some very, very well-designed parkscape."
Another unique feature is the park's system of heliostats, which sit on the roof of a 23-story residential tower. The solar reflectors reflect sunlight back into the park, because the park sits entirely in the shadows of surrounding buildings.
