Some local cooks and falafel fans celebrated Middle Eastern cuisine with a record-breaking feast Friday.

Chefs at the Olympic Pita restaurant on the West Side created what they hope to be the world's largest fafafel ball.

The chef says it took about 10 gallons of oil to fry the over 30-pound ball of chickpeas and spices.

Former Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau and an engineer were on hand to certify the massive snack for submission to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The festivities are in celebration of the "Salute To Israel" parade on Sunday.
